| Serving Our Customers |
| Recently, I had the opportunity to observe salespeople as they interacted with customers. Some of the former smiled, and were pleasant and caring. Their friendliness revealed a welcoming attitude. They went out of their way to let shoppers feel valued and appreciated. On the other hand, I observed other hired staff who were negative and uncaring, and who rarely smiled. |

| Using Our Skills and Abilities Wisely |
| Maureen had been looking forward to going on vacation for a long time. She planned to take a solo ride on her purple Harley to Sturgis, South Dakota, for the annual motorcycle rally. Before leaving for her trip, Maureen delegated responsibilities to the three members of her investment team: Evon, Mary, and Joe. | Embracing Diversity in the Workplace |
| For organizations to successfully compete in today’s global marketplace, they need to discover the value of a diverse workplace community that is not one-dimensional. | A New Year Resolution for the Workplace |
| It is a new year, and many people have made resolutions. While many of our resolutions are fresh in our minds, I would like to suggest that we make another. Let’s consciously resolve to seek to improve relationships, and the way we speak to others, where we work. A commitment to see the value in others, and to uphold their dignity, will help to make this New Year a positive and successful one. |

| Valuing One Another in the Workplace |
| Tom stared intently at the floor, enduring the rebuke of a very angry woman publicly humiliating him. With embarrassment, and perhaps an element of anger, he flushed, as beads of sweat began to form on his forehead. He stood motionless, but Tom’s body language was loud and clear, though he did not speak a word. Oh, how he wanted this moment to end so that he could recover any ounce of dignity that remained within him! |

Successful organizations create healthy, emotion-friendly work environments
Molly stood at the edge of the subway platform as a train roared down the tracks toward her, its headlights breaking through the darkness of the tunnel. As metal screeched against metal, a wild, almost uncontrollable impulse overtook her: to throw herself on the tracks and end the pain. |
