Canadian Author’s Third Book Helps Parents Teach Their Kids about God
By N.J. Lindquist

When Grace Fox heard a statistic saying nine out of ten Christian young people don’t believe in absolute truth, she was astonished. She decided to write a book to help parents train their children in the ways of the Lord. Grace says, “Kids need to understand that God’s Word—not the media’s message—is truth.”

Since 1999, Grace has had numerous articles published in magazines such as Focus on the Family, War Cry, Charisma, The Upper Room, Christian Reader, and Power for Living. She also has two other books for women. But it took a while for her to find her calling as a writer and speaker.

Raised in a Christian family in Brooks, Alberta, Grace gave her heart to Jesus when she was eight. While a senior at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, she was asked what she’d do if money and time weren’t issues. “I said I’d like to marry and be a mother, but I also wished to write.” Grace readily attained the first part of her dream, but it took 20 years for her to become a professional writer.

After completing Bible college, Grace married American Gene Fox, and they became missionaries to Nepal. While there, Grace gave birth to a son and a daughter, but because their daughter was born with hydrocephalus, the Fox family moved back to the United States. Eventually, they discovered a love for camp ministry, and today Gene and Grace are based at Camp Homewood on Quadra Island in British Columbia.

As a missionary, Grace loved writing the monthly update to their supporters, and got a lot of positive feedback. “They told me the letters made them feel as though they were with us. They encouraged me to write.”

In contrast, after returning to North America, Grace became a stay-at-home mom. It wasn’t until her three children were teens that Grace decided to take a correspondence course and attend a writers’ conference.

Told to “Write what you know,” Grace thought of two things. “I’d learned to pray God’s Word on my children’s behalf while involved with a ministry called Moms in Touch. Second, we’d experienced God’s faithfulness in amazing ways when our second child was born.” Putting the ideas together, Grace wrote a devotional for moms. 10-Minute Time Outs for Moms is now a bestseller in the Canadian Christian publishing industry, and God is using it to encourage mothers worldwide.

Grace’s second book, 10-Minute Time Outs for Busy Women, has an even broader audience. Her third book, out this month, is 10-Minute Time Outs for You and Your Kids: Scripture, Stories, and Prayers You Can Share Together.

Her goal for this book is to give parents a tool to help them prepare their children to be tomorrow’s leaders. “They need to know about God’s character and its relevance to their everyday lives, and they need to know how He wants us to shine as lights in our society.”

It took a while, but Grace Fox is happily shining her light through her writing and speaking. Her website is www.gracefox.com
